I didnât think anything could top the EASA graphics about ârespecting all choicesâ on an airplane , but these are actually REAL New York City Transit posters, based on the formerly cute design promoting masking and community care that I thought was pretty good, and got lampooned in a pro public health way.
Now theyâve made it a dystopian nightmare of anti public health messaging, undermining de-stigmatizing masking. And a bunch of people have posted responses from brutal criticisms to brutal meme-ified lambasting of the bonkers poster that NY Governor & the MTA tweeted.
@TRyanGregory tweet says I can't think of a more unambiguous illustration of how far we've fallen as a society in a very short time: from "We're all in this together" to "Do whatever you want" in only 2 years. (All of these posters are real.) and shows the Change in MTA masking signs from 2020 to 2022 from âI take care of youâ depictions to âmasks are encouraged but optionalâ with people wearing the masks incorrectly off their nose or no mask and the caption says yes, yes @@MPXVawareness tweeted this Parody of the new unmask you do you NYC MTA transit authority posters. The edited poster has the first guy wearing a mask properly and it says yes, the second one has nose out and the original poster said yes, but thatâs crossed out and it says no now, the 3rd one has the mask only over the nose and that one had said You do you but thatâs crossed out and it says NOPE. the fourth one which was an unmasked face, is now the head of a clown and yes is crossed out and it now says Yeah thatâs a no, and the bottom says letâs respect each otherâs health @joejaggi posted tweet text has been changed on MTA poster to say, "Smoking is discouraged, but optional." Instead of various states of masking, the smiley faces are smoking different things. The first one is smoking a tobacco pipe. The second is smoking a cigarette. The third is smoking a crack pipe. The fourth is smoking a joint.and the caption reads letâs respect each otherâs choices @rafaelshimunov tweeted this, itâs a series of stick people depicted peeing and pooping into the pool, and the caption reads Not peeing in the pool is encouraged but optional letâs respect each otherâs choices @rafaelshimunov tweeted this, itâs a series of people picking nose and butt and it says yes yes you do you and the caption reads washing hands before food prep? encouraged but optional letâs respect each others choices @Imanismami tweet image , the transit poster is edited to say masks are NO PROBLEM and the figure is giving a thumbs up and it says letâs respect each other with a thank you
Iâm terrified and utterly saddened by the abandonment of public health, and the abandonment of community care. Letâs not do this.
